Shareholders sue Icahn over Texaco takeover tactics
A White Plains class action suit filed Friday on behalf of Texaco Inc. shareholders accuses Carl Icahn of manipulating Texaco share prices to buy cheaply. The case ties to an earlier Texaco securities violations suit against Icahn, Texaco’s largest shareholder and Trans World Airlines chairman. Americans boosted installment credit by 4.46 billion in March, a fourth straight monthly rise, the Fed said, signaling continued strong consumer spending with an annual debt growth rate of 8.6 percent despite February’s 6.04 billion increase.

Airline deregulation a success says Kahn
Former CAB chief Alfred Kahn argues deregulation boosted competition and cut fares. He notes CAB blocked competition, routes and price changes before deregulation and cites a 30.5 percent drop in fare per mile from 1976 to 1987 saving travelers about 10 to 11 million annually. He says small towns gained departures while accident rates fell 35 to 45 percent in eight years. Some concerns about traffic problems may reflect pilot resistance.
