Beirut sources report renewed combat, with at least one Lebanese soldier killed and the army naming opponents as non Palestinian armed groups. Jerry R. Moore, 31, of rural duwa City, pled guilty in Linn district court to drunk driving. Judge B. J. Maxwell fined him 309 dollars and allowed an application for a new license in 60 days after an alleged Monday incident on highway 30 west of Cedar Rapids. Byron E. Hinton Jr., 42, of Tiawatha, pled innocent to a drunk driving charge in Linn district court and was released on recognizance after a Sunday arrest.
Paul Everett Williams 28 of Cedar Rapids died after head and chest injuries from a two vehicle crash. Williams was not belted in. his windshield was struck and both cars a 1966 models were demolished. Co worker Francis Powers also involved died earlier. Casteelien 24 treated for minor injuries. Memorial services planned at Turner West Chapel with burial Linwood.
President Nixon ended two days of talks with Australian Prime Minister Gorton reaffirming U.S. resolve to support pacific security and progress in Southeast Asia. The meeting highlighted continued American contributions to stability in the region.
DES MOINES Iowa house rejected a bid to shift restaurant and food store inspection from the agriculture department to the health department. The body approved a 1.2 million annual appropriation for agriculture 1070 to the governor. No meal restaurant or grocery inspection sums were included, as lawmakers said those would be in other bills. Rep Edward Mezvinsky criticized the move while Rep Maurice Van Nostrand defended operators saying they are not interested in poisoning customers and inspectors could not ensure daily visits for clean food.

Eva Patterson died in Sioux City Monday. Memorial services were held at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Memories officiated by Dr. Glenn W. McMichael of St. Pauls United Methodist Church. Cremation committal followed with interment at Cedar Memorial. Leo Scofield Patterson to be buried at LaPorte City cemetery Thursday at 1:30 p.m. by Dr. Arnold Herbst. Friends may call Beatty Bearle chapel until 1 a.m. Thursday. casket remains closed at the church.
