Davenport mother charged in beating over report card
A Davenport mother, Lesli Michele Thomas, 29, is charged with child endangerment for allegedly beating her 10-year-old daughter with a pool cue for failing to bring home a straight A report card. The assault occurred April 13. she faces arraignment May 31 and the child is no longer in her custody. In a separate case, Donna Simmons, mother of Tracey Simmons, 7, is charged with endangering a child for alleged abuse by her boyfriend Larry Siemer, who is jailed for burns and other injuries. Tracey is hospitalized and both cases involve state child protection authorities.

Concorde trip to London canceled for Des Moines
Des Moines sponsors canceled the Des Moines portion of a July 27 Concorde flight to London after selling only 40 of 100 seats. The $4,500 to $9,000 package included a 1,450 mph Atlantic crossing, four days of London events, and a Queen Elizabeth II return. Man Dies After Falling From Pickup Truck
UOPER AP report states John King, 40, of rural Jefferson died Wednesday night after falling from the back of a pickup on a Green County road, about 20 miles southeast of Cooper. The sheriff said he fell while the vehicle, driven by his wife Marilyn, was holding a calf in the back.
