Three Linn-Mar high school students earn recognition in the Iowa Poetry Day Assny contest. Kathy Sebeny wins second place in the tenth grade division and will have her poem published in the assoc book. Becky Mays and Roxanne Hart receive honorable mentions in freshman and sophomore categories.

A mock disaster was staged at the West Union fire station by Palmer Memorial Hospital and Emergency Medical Service. Short Change Artists Hit at Two CR Firms
Short change artists victimized two businesses Wednesday night. They obtained 20 dollars from Lancer Lanes at 3203 Sixth Street SW and 97.76 dollars from Hamburg Inn at 3100 Sixth Street SW by confusing cashiers with small purchases and demanding change for various denominations. Norma R. Albers, 33, was treated for bruises after a van backing into a parking space struck her in the 300 block of Third Street SE. Donald W. Konigsmark, 18, was driving the van. No charges filed. A Himalayan cat valued at 200 dollars belonging to the John Remmel family at 3106 Blue Ridge Court NE was found shot in the yard Tuesday. The spine injury required euthanasia. another neighborhood pet shooting had been reported recently.

Three individuals were arrested on drunk driving charges late Wednesday into Thursday. Michael W. Urbanek, 27, of 217 Park Court SE, was taken into custody at 1:48 a.m. near First Avenue and Thirty eighth Street SE. Richard L. Frame, 27, of rural Norway, was arrested at First Avenue and Fifth Street NE at 8:54 p.m. Wednesday. David A. Mallory, 31, of rural Vinton, was arrested at 12:32 a.m. Thursday at First Avenue and Fiftieth Street East.
