Ruling Finds Eight Iowa Students Violated Campus Code
A University of Iowa hearing officer ruled eight students violated the campus behavior code during a protest of a CIA campus visit last October. The board found they disrupted university business and occupied a hallway in Westlawn, and refused to obey an order to leave. A sanctions hearing will determine penalties though one student plans to appeal after Dean Phillip Jones recommended one year probation and a five page paper on congressional oversight of CIA activities.

Tank spills liquid nitrogen fertilizer near Viola
A Farmers Co-op tank ruptured on County Home Road Extension east of Viola spilling about 1200 gallons of liquid nitrogen fertilizer. The liquid pooled on the road and in a ditch, but authorities say contamination did not reach wells or the nearby creek. The soil was excavated and dirt hauled to a nearby farmer’s property to prevent seepage.
