Probe on Ford official citizenship sparks inquiry

The House Immigration Committee voted to obtain data on W. J. Cameron of Detroit, a Ford Motor official, to inspect his citizenship status. The panel will seek the labor department report before any executive session, amid claims Judge Arthur Tuttle granted citizenship lacking a declaration of intention, relating to Cameron's Ontario birth. The discussion arose during debate over an illiteracy test exemption for pre entry aliens.

Civil War Veteran Recovers Strength at 91 Birthday

Samuel Beck of Linn county celebrated his ninety first birthday with family despite a recent flu attack. A Civil War veteran, he served three years in the Thirty third Wisconsin infantry and remains among the region's dwindling survivors. His son Guy Beck, daughter in law, Ray Beck and other relatives attended a bed bound party with two birthday cakes as a sign of his enduring spirit.

Franklin Pupils Present Brilliant Instrumental Program

Franklin district pupils delivered a capable program directed by Miss Olive Curtis and Roland Moehlmann. The Franklin High School first band performed Mannin Venn and Salutation with strong woodwind tone and technique. Soloists Anna Mae Osterlund and Phyllis Leacox impressed, while the orchestra and ensembles showcased solid training and ensemble work, drawing strong applause.

Roosevelt nominates 4449 to senate in current session

Washington AP reports President Roosevelt sent 4,449 nominations to the senate this session. Of these, 4,279 have been confirmed, five withdrawn, one rejected, and 164 awaiting action.

Conservation Board Reopens Palisades Park Dam Service Road

Dr. F. J. Naibert and a group of local fishermen won approval from the Iowa conservation commission to reopen a service road to the area below Palisades dam. The road had been closed for lack of necessity. fishermen will provide labor while the state supplies gravel and a truck. Parking at the water edge will be banned, but fishing parties may haul gear to shore and return cars to the regular lot.

Milwaukee Woman Faces Life For Poisoning Family

Mrs Anna Louise Sullivan age 50 faced life imprisonment after pleading guilty to first degree murder in the poisoning of her stepson James Sullivan 18. She confessed to poisoning her second husband Fred Ricklefs eight years earlier claiming he was a terrible man warped by war. She attempted to kill her third husband Michael Sullivan and his daughter Theresa 11 and was arrested after an autopsy on Sullivan.
