Iowa Farm Price Index Falls to 93 in April
Iowa extension economists report the farm price index at 93 on April 15, the lowest since December 1934 except for last year's August and October. Prices for hogs eggs lambs and beef were weak while grain rose and cattle sheep and chickens held steady. The index shows purchasing power at 78 percent of the 1910-14 level mid-April, with demand for farm products about March levels amid uncertain foreign markets and a reduced U S export outlook. Central Europe is largely a lost outlet for farm products, shrinking competition with England.
