Des Moines AP reports that Dewey Berlovich, owner of a Des Moines nightclub, has the murder case against him sent to a jury after closing arguments labeled the slaying of Don Merrigan as cold blooded murder. Merrigan died after a March 10 clash at the club. jurors were instructed on possible verdicts ranging from first degree murder to acquittal and penalties including death, life with hard labor, 10 years to life, or eight years maximum for manslaughter, plus a $1000 fine.
In Moscow Capt Anthony Eden met Stalin with Lord Chilston as they discuss a possible far eastern pact including the United States and major powers. Litvinoff suggested a six nation framework and Eden probed European peace prospects while Litvinov and Eden were to discuss trade relations.
London dispatch reports Britain moving from isolationist stance toward cooperation with France and Italy in European security as Germany demands restoration of prewar colonies to rejoin the league. Chancellor Hitler previously rejected the Franco British peace plan, widening debates over Africa mandates and collective security.
Joel Jones a 39 year old Negro of 550 H street SW was sentenced to life imprisonment at hard labor at Fort Madison state penitentiary for two murder charges after pleading guilty to fatally shooting Dora Bragg and Lavina Harris last Saturday morning. Judge F O Ellison imposed the term after testimony and twelve jurors. He stated Jones willfully deliberately premeditated and with malice aforethought killed both victims. Jones told the court I committed the crimes and I am willing to pay for them. The State was represented by County Attorney G Thompson and W G Loftus defended. (Continued on Page 24 Col 2)

Greene assistant county attorney aged 37 died after a fall from room 302 at the Montrose hotel around 3 58 p m He appeared to be alone in the room and a witness Donald P Barnes described seeing a white object in the window before the fall Investigators found Greene's coat hat and personal items on the room floor and ruled out foul play pending inquest continuation
Deportation proceedings on charges of communism against Evelyn John Strachey, British author, were dropped by the labor department. The announcement, by immigration commissioner Daniel W. MacCormack, noted the Chicago hearing on March 21 and that Strachey would sail on the Berengaria on March 29.
DES MOINES AP Senator Vincent F Harrington of Sioux City filed a motion to obtain reconsideration of the administration supported bill to regulate direct buying of livestock in Iowa.
