Cedar Rapids Chamber to send two delegates on the third annual Sell-See Iowa Caravan visiting ten cities from May 18 to 25. Delegates from the chamber and visitors bureau join about 50 Iowans, sponsored by the Iowa Development Commission, with stops in Nebraska Colorado Wyoming Utah Nevada and California. Mrs. Hunter has visiting rights under the decree, but is barred from contact with the children. An arrest warrant for Mrs. Hunter remains outstanding.
Arthur Mallon, former executive assistant to the Linn county board, is named chief clerk in the auditor’s office after the board abolished his post. He will earn 10 800 dollars, matching his prior salary, while the auditor’s salary is 9 350 dollars. Mallon’s position lasts until a replacement for Deputy Dannewitz is found. The move follows a state pattern of chief clerks earning higher than the principal.
Robert F. Ziegler, 25, of 1413 B avenue NE, was ordered to plead or move on a drunk driving charge in Cedar Rapids municipal court after a deputy sheriff found him attempting to drive from a ditch on Highway 150 near Blairs Ferry Road NE. Bond was set at $500 with 10 percent to post. he posted $50 to be released.
A cold Arctic air surge moved into Iowa as Minnesota recorded up to five inches of snow on Friday. Strong northerly winds up to 30 mph reduced visibility, with 5 inches in the Twin Cities, 4 in Mankato and Willmar, and 2 in Rochester. Temperatures were expected to plunge to near 5 above zero in the north and teens elsewhere by Saturday morning.
The Cedar River hit 10.0 feet in Cedar Rapids at 1 p.m. Friday and was forecast to crest near 10.5 feet late Friday night. Flood level is 13 feet. High waters caused minor issues as Cedar backed into Prairie Creek, spilling onto Jones Park golf course while Otis road SE and Manhattan Park NW areas flooded.

Anna Mae Fare died Friday at Cedar Rapids after a long illness. Born July 5, 1902 in Wien Missouri she lived most of her life in Cedar Rapids. Survived by three daughters three sons eighteen grandchildren one great grandchild and numerous relatives. Memorial services Monday at Turner Chapel East at 1 30 p.m. with burial at Cedar Memorial cemetery.
Frank C. Smith aged 77 of 1018 Fourth avenue SE died Wednesday after a brief illness. Born September 24, 1891 in Lyndon Kansas he married Ina P. Schroeppel of Nashua. He worked in retail lumber most of his life and retired. He was a Mason 32nd degree a member of the Eagles and an American Legion charter member. Surviving are two daughters Mrs D J Ibeling Cedar Rapids and Mrs Robert W Stanley Des Moines and three granddaughters. Services Saturday at 2 p.m. at McAnich funeral home Victor with Rev Frazer A. Thomason of Des Moines officiating. Burial IOOF cemetery Victor.
