Battles Near Saigon Mark One Of Viet Cong’s Closest Moves
US and South Vietnamese forces report ten battles across South Vietnam including a near Saigon clash. Three American aircraft were shot down and totals show 251 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese killed, with 7 Americans and 10 South Vietnamese dead and 74 Americans and 30 government troops wounded. Three crewmen were rescued from one downed bomber near Qui Nhon, and a gunship was destroyed in a Saigon-area engagement. Additional fighting around Cam Lo and Bien Hoa caused further American and allied casualties while Viet Cong shelled bases and towns overnight.

Woman Beaten During Burglary At High Amana
Special to The Gazette High Amana Iowa County Sheriff William Spurrier reports a 6 year old High Amana woman Ruth Ochs was severely beaten by a burglar at about 2 30 a m in an unoccupied apartment above hers. She underwent surgery for a laceration on her left forearm at Mercy hospital Cedar Rapids and was listed in satisfactory condition. The burglar entered through a downstairs bedroom window and attacked Ms Ochs after being awakened by her calls for who is up. Her daughter Sheryl Ochs 17 fled to a neighbor for help and the intruder fled. The investigation continues.
