Mount the American genre artist at Whitney Museum
William Sidney Mount lived 1807 to 1868 and spent his later years on rural Long Island. He rejected European patrons and avoided New York City, traveling in a horse drawn studio to sketch country scenes that became his paintings. The Whitney exhibit will likely seem a corn filled portrait of a plainspoken artist.
