A woman perished from smoke during a Tuesday night blaze. Delayed medical help is blamed on a lack of prompt access to a doctor, prompting calls for a city wide system to secure rapid medical attention at all hours.
A Cedar Rapids woman, Mrs. Charles Mohme, 50, suffocated while attempting to rescue her bulldog during a basement fire at Ellinor apartments 1040 Third avenue SE. Firemen found her on the third floor after smelling smoke and seeing flames in the laundry room. The state fire marshal will investigate the cause. no inquest is planned.
