Benton County supervisor Ed Sass will donate a pint of bone marrow at University Hospitals Iowa City to a stranger battling leukemia. The 39 year old says the act honors his cousin Jeff Vesely who died of the disease. He was called in December after testing and will undergo the donation next month.
Roland Thomson, 72, formerly of Tipton now in West Des Moines, faces a federal child adult material charge after pleading guilty to possessing 12 photos and nine negatives taken in Iowa City classrooms in 1997 and 1998. He and his wife Shirley have related state cases. Thomson to be sentenced today.
