Workers resumed duties at the Allis-Chalmers plant in Cedar Rapids after a walkout last week and a temporary idle period. Local 116 United Electrical Workers and company officials met to discuss an interim work agreement covering about 675 production and maintenance employees, including a three step grievance process and a no strike clause. The proposal allows union dues checkoff and sets a 10 day termination notice with a potential union strike after a secret referendum on company premises.
Sgt. Harold Dunning in the Korean combat zone paid off in full a $1 fine for over time parking he received in St. Louis. He sent the traffic bureau the ticket and four crisp Korean bills claiming they were worth $1 in American money.

Milo S Houser of Cedar Rapids died at Michael Reese hospital Chicago at 8 am Sunday after a lingering illness. Born Prairieburg March 23 1912 he moved to Cedar Rapids in 1922 and was a 1930 graduate of St Wenceslaus high school. Survived by parents Mrs and Mrs John Houser of Cedar Rapids wife Josephine daughter Jacqueline Kenneth Hammond brother Robert Houser Farmington New Mexico. Services at Kuba funeral home with time to be announced. Friends may call Tuesday.

Centerville editor publisher Jesse M. Beck marks fifty years in the field. Beck and partner John R. Needham bought the Lowegian in 1903, growing circulation from 1,200 to 5,000 by 1916 and later absorbing the Daily and Weekly Citizen. He led Iowa press groups, earned a Master Editor plaque, and served Iowa Wesleyan University trustees.
The Senate on Monday approved Val Peterson former Nebraska governor as federal civilian defense administrator and confirmed James H. Douglas Jr. of Chicago as air undersecretary.
Leslie Clay age 27 of Gilman faced a continuance until Wednesday after being charged in municipal court with assault with intent to inflict bodily harm. Bonds were set at 1000 dollars. Authorities said he fired a shotgun from his front door Saturday and used tear gas bombs to drive officers away, sending his wife fleeing.
Gov. William S. Beardsley prepared a message to Queen Elizabeth of England at the request of the Iowa Florists Association. Des Moines Iowa AP Gov Beardsley announced a study of a state auditor report that criticized the State Conservation Commission on two charges. The commission director Bruce F Stiles had declined comment amid accusations of mismanagement over two airplanes and auto allowances for staff. Beardsley asked for a copy of the special audit and said he would review it thoroughly before acting. The conservation panel operates under a governor appointed commission but retains some independent powers.
Members of Cub Pack 5 held their annual blue and gold dinner at Central Park church. Ralph Moore was named cubmaster with Marvin Palmer and John Fossum as assistant cubmasters. In Des Moines on Monday the Iowa Executive Council approved buying four trucks from low bidders. Marshalltown-based Motor Inn Chevrolet Company won two one ton pickups and a station wagon, while Rapids Chevrolet Company of Rapids won a half ton truck. Prices ranged from 1 603 to 1 161 dollars.
Cedar Rapids city council faced a health nuisance case on the northeast side where homes lack sewer service. Assistant Health Officer Carl Smith cited about 30 properties bounded by Eighth and Tenth streets NE and A to B avenue as creating waste disposal problems near St Luke's hospital addition. The council will study needs and consider a resolution of necessity for sanitary sewers if voluntary petitions fail.

Patrolman Felix Barta crashed his own car after a stop in the 100 block of Sixteenth avenue SW when a woman braked. His license expired last January, and he was charged with driving without a valid license. The city Safety Commissioner Prochaska also revealed an expired license. He joked about riding the bus until Wednesday while renewing at the courthouse.
Judge Alexander Holtzoff ruled that the perjury trial of Dr. Joseph W. Weinberg would continue after determining a quorum existed for the testimony by the so called Scientist X before the House Un American Activities Committee.
