New Road Commissioners For Enforcement of Rules
Iowa will gain two highway commissioners after July 1 with duties to enforce special truck hauling permit rules. Bernard Mercer and William Gray, both Republicans, replace Democrats Hansen and Bradley, shifting the commission toward GOP control. They support stricter enforcement while not commenting on specific cases. The panel resumes meeting Wednesday with possible new penalties, and existing laws allow suspensions up to nine days for willful violations.
