Welding Flaws Put Alaska Pipeline Testing On Hold
Washington AP report notes welding flaws in the Alaska pipeline could trigger new court actions if Alyeska seeks to use acoustic testing on buried welds. About 3955 welds in 89 foot sections were flawed or approved by phony X rays, with 2000 welds left to fix and 416 hard to reach. A whistleblower said he was told to falsify inspection photos. The federal government and Alyeska require X rays for every weld but acoustic testing could waive this rule.
