Cedar Rapids Man Fined for Altering Gun Serial Number

A Cedar Rapids man Michael Johnson at 917 Tenth Street SE was fined 500 dollars and costs by the First Avenue division of Iowa district court after being found guilty by a jury of altering a manufactured serial number on a handgun. He received 12 months in jail with six months suspended and six months to be served concurrently with existing sentences. In other business the court fined a Cedar Rapids man.

Wilton Man Dies After Crash West of Tipton

Lynn Ducker 19 of Wilton died from injuries after a car crash seven miles west of Tipton. Co-driver Stephen Weber 19 was in fair condition at University Hospitals Iowa City. Sheriff reports the car failed to turn off at Cedar Valley east-west turnoff and plunged into an embankment around 1 20 a.m. Services for Ducker pending. The accident remains under investigation.

Barefoot Girls Charged With Trespass at Legion Lanes

Two teenage girls aged 14 and 15 were charged with criminal trespass and resisting after refusing to leave Legion Lanes at 401 Fourth Avenue SE at 8 05 p m Sunday. They refused to give officers their names for about 30 minutes after arrest and were released to their parents.

Four Drunk Driving Charges From Linn Deputies and Hiawatha Police

Four men faced drunk driving charges after late Saturday and early Sunday arrests. James R. Olsen, 40, was stopped on Blairs Ferry road by Hiawatha police for erratic driving. Deputies arrested Matthew J. McEnany, 21, at Center Point road and Javenue NE after erratic driving. Harold Downing, 43, of Toddville, was taken into custody at highway 150 and Robins road for erratic driving. William E. Bys Jr., 25, of Mt. Vernon route two, was in a minor head injuries accident on old highway 30 west of Mt. Vernon, with a westbound pickup leaving a ditch and returning to the road.

Pony Express To Visit Cedar Rapids As Bicentennial Tour

The pony express route from Mt. Vernon Washington to Valley Forge Pennsylvania arrives in Cedar Rapids on June 30 as part of the Iowa leg starting June 29 with a stop through Missouri Valley. Local riders will change every ten miles at about ten miles per hour with a ceremony at 1 30 p.m. near the Nissen plant. Lyle Bruere will present letters from Governor Ray and the Iowa Bicentennial Commission to riders who will postmark and mail them back to the state before continuing to Clinton.

Stolen Guns Reported From Cedar Rapids Residence

A Sunday break in at a rural Cedar Rapids home resulted in the theft of 11 shotguns and two rifles valued at 4000 dollars. Roy Jameson of route two reported the loss after burglars pried open a side door from the garage to the residence.
