Emphasis on education over discipline. rules cover showers before entering, foot baths, toilet use, exclusion for illness, skin openings, no spitting, ear protection, no rough play, and cleaning private swimsuits after each use.
MT VERNON Roy Winchip 61 owner of the Palace pool hall died suddenly Monday afternoon of a heart attack He had lived here 15 years and formerly ran the Mt Vernon hotel Surviving are his wife a daughter Mary Alice four brothers John Stanwood Parley Olin Alvin Scotch Grove Steve Winchip Cedar Rapids and a sister Mrs Etta Walton Minnesota Services set for 2 pm Wednesday at the Presbyterian church with burial in Mt Vernon cemetery
William K. Greenwood about 65, Farley postmaster for 14 years, was found dead in his Davenport hotel room after attending the Iowa postmasters convention. Death due to heart attack reported by Coroner C H Wildman. Survived by wife, three daughters and four sons.
Nine people were hospitalized after a two car collision on highway 10 near Boone. Six of the injured were from Webster City and rode in one car. Authorities said all sustained serious shock and full injury extent remained undetermined.
Edward Noll a 32 year old West Liberty farmer was to be arraigned on a drunk driving charge after an 85 mile an hour chase. Highway Patrolman John Snyder said Noll resisted arrest and a passing motorist helped subdue him. Snyder would confer with the Muscatine County attorney about adding resisting arrest and other charges.
Des Moines AP report says Mr and Mrs Robert E Daniels returned to a ruined five room home after an all day outing. A 10 pound sack of flour covered rugs while syrup coffee milk and groceries spilled. Detectives noted footprints to a neighboring house where two children aged three and five had been left with a babysitter.
Iowa law enforcement officers will study mock crimes rescue procedures and a mock trial during the 14th annual peace officers short course at the University of Iowa July 10-14. About 50 instructors will lead 11 hours of lectures and 27 hours in four special classes.
Des Moines AP Ernest Seeman of Waterloo reported to the secretary of state that he spent just 2 for postage and had no receipts in his unsuccessful bid for the Democratic nomination in the June 5 U S senate primary.
The attorney general ruled that justices of the peace and constables in townships with 10 000 population or less may retain all fees collected in civil cases. The opinion was issued on Oscar Strauss's request with Deputy state auditor L I Truax noted.
The Associated Press reports that of 43 Iowa counties tallied so far in the 1950 census, 24 show population declines since 1940. Linn is the only county over 100000. declines include Van Buren, Keokuk, Monona, Marion, Franklin, and Allamakee, with Waukon gaining 178. None of the figures are official yet.
The Iowa City council approved spending 143 906 to resurface 107 blocks. Work starts after July 10 with bids opening then and lasts about two months. Gas tax refunds will fund the project over 10 years, covering the cost in under three years.

Iowa state stores sold liquor to 308 830 permit holders in the first 11 months of the fiscal year for a total of 36 915 983 dollars. That is 128 898 dollars more than the previous year though the permit base fell to 315 799. The commission chair cited a generally good employment picture as boosting purchases with an average spend of 119 54 dollars per permit holder, higher than last year.

In Des Moines the dog Butch saved Lamont Reed aged 2 from a rainwater filled pit in the Reed backyard. The dog grabbed the child from the water's edge and held on until neighbors were alerted and Mrs. Reed pulled the boy to safety.
Fort Dodge audiences hear Attorney General Robert L. Larson claim his anti gambling crusade saves Iowans millions weekly. He pins two million dollars weekly savings to the absence of slot machines and notes funds saved from stopping horse racing betting cards bingo punchboards football parlays and dice. He says the savings repair damage to Iowa's economy and set the pace for the nation.
Harlan AP Herman Kenkel a 51 year old Portsmouth farmer was killed Monday when the tractor he rode stalled on the tracks and was struck by a Milwaukee passenger train on his farm.
