Sunday highs reach mid 80s with cooler nights and a chance of scattered showers. Tuesday highs fall into the 60s to 70s as the outlook calls for generally fair and cool weather. Normal June temperatures and precipitation estimates are noted along with barometer readings and river town data.

In Sheboygan Wisconsin three young men were found guilty of disorderly conduct after the Elkhart Lake race riot. Christopher Scott and James Knigge, both 20, were placed on one year probation for failure to disperse. Thomas Field, 20, was fined $25 plus costs for drinking in the street. Two officers were hospitalized as about 6000 race fans gathered, with under 200 involved in the disturbances.
The Cedar Rapids council began action on a gas franchise election expected next month with target July 25. Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Co seeks a 25 year extension. the city will bear no election cost. The proposal adds water mains protections and defines service rules while keeping rate making powers with the city under state law. James Colbert presented the non exclusive deal with three requested ordinance changes.
The Supreme Court by a 7 2 decision considers Rachel Browner 39 a short order cook in a private firm cafe at a naval gun factory in Washington. A security officer revoked her badge on November 15 1956 without explanation or hearing. Browner refused a public cafe job in Springfield Virginia and sued the navy for the badge and back pay. Justice Stewart notes no implied disloyalty or loss of other employment results.
The court held that warrants to seize obscene publications must include safeguards to protect non obscene material. It also said states may require lawyers to join dues paying associations. Brennan delivered the 7-2 decision with Black and Douglas dissenting.
Mabel B Reid wife of John F Reid died in a Cedar Rapids hospital after a long illness. Born near Center Point she moved to Cedar Rapids in 1940 and married Jan 8 1947. Survived by husband a son Elimer J Hoff Cedar Rapids a sister Maude C Thomas Cedar Rapids a brother Leo G Cress Center Point three step sons Myron Cedar Rapids Bernell Marion and John F Reid Jr with the air force and four grandchildren. Funeral arrangements to be announced. Friends may call at the Turner chapel after 1 pm Tuesday.
Evelina Skorepa of 318 Seventh Street SE died Monday. She was born in Warsaw, Poland. Surviving are five daughters Lillian Morrison Angela Skorepa Martha McNamara Michaelena Silver and Frances and a son Frank. Services Thursday at 9 at Immaculate Conception Church. burial at St. John's. Rosary Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Brady mortuary.

The funeral service for Graves and Charlotte Beatty Bearle will be held at 1 30 Tuesday conducted by the Rev. Samuel J Hahn of Buffalo EUB church. Burial will follow at Linwood.
DES MOINES AP announces James Fetters of Indianola as assistant director of the State Safety Department overseeing safety responsibilities and the driver's license division. Fetters has supervised technical services in the division for the last 40 years.

A Car carrying a family of five and another with six teenagers crashed head on on a two lane Virginia road. Eight people died including five members of the family. three teens survived including the driver. Police said the collision happened as the youths attempted to pass on a rising slope and collided at the hill crest.
The Alabama health department records show Merwin Coad was granted a divorce from Dolores L. Coad on March 13 for cruelty. The quickie divorce statute requires no residence term. The item also notes that Coach from Boone is a Democratic representative from Iowa's South district.
Police chief Lester R. Woodward urged permanent appointments. Council withheld action on five officers with the longest service and approved four with earliest start dates from January 3 to January 23. Other patrolmen faced postponed decisions, tied to original appointment dates from February 16 to March 6.
