Hog Prices Fall Amid Higher Hog Remains in Iowa Minnesota
Hog prices declined across interior Iowa and southern Minnesota last week with Thursday's close 5 to 10 cents lower on butcher hogs and sow prices dropping 10 to 35 cents depending on weight. Heavy receipts with 76,100 head in four days, about 22 percent above last week, but close to year earlier totals, fueled the downturn alongside a surge in sow marketing, near 40 percent of total receipts, suggesting a weaker June hog movement.

Fence Drift in Sroven Wire Causes Trouble
A note describes fence drift entangling sroven wire and warns of hazards. The text discusses summer nurse-crop grain growth with new grass seeding and the risk of clover, timothy, and alfalfa being smothered by heavy oats or barley. Farmers hesitate to cut nurse crop for hay hoping harvest will favor seed survival.
Hog market shows wider price margins and early sow run
Hog buyers see 20 to 25 cent discounts across weight groups as price spreads widen. Sows under 350 pounds fetch 50 to 60 cents less than 550 pound hogs, with indications that packing sow runs may be ahead of schedule and a shortened summer supply year. May hog marketings were notably reduced.
