University of Iowa conference honors women achievements
The University of Iowa hosts a two day conference on women’s achievements with N Peg Burke of the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women as Friday dinner speaker and Patricia Sleezer Ritter giving Saturday’s keynote in the Illinois room. Events include workshops, campus tours, and a luncheon. Tickets are $5 for Friday and $10 for Saturday.

Eleven Cedar Rapids riders join teams from Iowa City and Fairfield at the regional United States pony rally in Kansas City. Emily Howell, a Denver native, becomes the first U S woman to captain a commercial airline. She rose from first officer to captain at Frontier Airlines on June 1 after 15 years and 7000 flight hours. Her twin sister is an Air Force nurse captain. Her first officer, Steve Rosevear, is the first man to co pilot for a woman on a domestic airliner.
