Defense lawyers claim government misconduct and coercion in Brown testimony during the grand jury process. They cite a 275-officer manhunt with air support and seek dismissal of charges against four individuals including Butler and Robideau. Brown testifies he feared murder if he did not cooperate.
Harold Stassen, former Minnesota governor, joined Ford ally Mrs. Smith at a fundraising dinner in Iowa. The convention at Knights of Columbus hall lasted nearly three and a half hours with multiple ballots. Chairman Tom Miller led the gathering as delegates debated constitutional changes to remove presidential or gubernatorial preferences from local reconventions.
The Texas delegation will total 130 delegates with 98 from the May primary and 32 at large. Carter leads with 114 delegates, Brown and Wallace get one each, and 14 remain uncommitted. Carter ends a five day Sea Island vacation and plans speeches in Lafayette Indiana and Atlanta at AME conference.

Millard Lynn Ray 24 of 80 Summer Circle NE was charged with false pretenses after attempting to buy four truck tires under a false name. He tried to purchase on credit from Goodyear Tire Store 402 Second Avenue SE. Ray was arrested about 5 p.m. Friday and held in county jail on $1000 bond.
Candace Fay Kane Wong, daughter of Mr and Mrs Jack Wong of 515 Green Valley Court SE, earned a Master of Science in journalism from Northwestern University Evanston Illinois. Stephen Wayne Mraz of 507 Fourteenth Street NE received a Bachelor of Arts from DePaul University Chicago.
The Sioux City murder trial of Jerry Mark nears its close as the defense rests after testimony from his mother Dorothy Mark. She described the brothers as close, farming together in 1969, and Jerry’s concern for his mentally ill brother Tom. Four witnesses reported a dark blue car near the Leslie Mark farm around the killings, with descriptions matching a 1965 Chevrolet.
