Stock prices edged higher in a quiet trading day as the Dow Jones average rose .17 to 920.62. Gainers led decliners 6 to 5 on the NYSE with 14.85 million shares traded by mid afternoon. The NYSE composite index gained .06 to 54.62 and the AMEX value index rose .39 to 116.72 amid trader confusion after a volatile week.

Folger Coffee Co. reduced its ground coffee price by 30 cents to 3.68 dollars a pound effective immediately. Folger, a Procter & Gamble division, has cut wholesale list prices by 75 cents since May 12. A spokesman cited declines in imported green coffee prices as the reason for the latest cut. There was no immediate indication if other major roasters would follow.
