Senate and House conferees approve a 36.1 billion military weapons procurement and research authorization bill. Panel Weakens Carter Energy Tax Plan

The House Ways and Means Committee approved a scaled back version of Carter’s energy tax on oil and gas used by industry and utilities. The vote 19 to 1 limits tax rates and retains exemptions while keeping final approval pending review. Some predict energy savings will be far lower than the president’s estimate.

Settlement Reached In 1.9 Million Suit

An out of court settlement ends the 1.9 million suit filed by Cynthia Olson against the Nissen Corp College Community district and Phyllis Brucher. The agreement covers a substantial amount and resolves all related lawsuits with joint contributions from the district and Nissen to the total awarded. Olson, a former Prairie High student, was allegedly injured on February 8 1974 during practice.
