Iraq poll shows waning confidence in coalition and security
A mid May poll of 1,098 Iraqi adults in Baghdad Basra Mosul Diwaniyah Hillah and Baquba finds 63 percent expect improvement under an Iraqi interim government and 62 percent believe Iraqi police and army will maintain security without U.S. troops. Confidence in the coalition sits at 11 percent, security fears rise, and 55 percent would feel safer with U.S. troops leaving. The survey also notes growing optimism for cleric al-Sadr while trust in the U.S. presence falls.

Ancient campsite near I 80 dates to 1500 B C
City officials and archaeologists say a site south of Interstate 80 near Edgewater Park dates to about 1500 B C. A spear point, stone tools and fire-cracked rock imply a temporary riverbank campsite likely 4 feet underground. Excavation planned this summer will catalog and preserve artifacts.

Affection mural on jail wall delays inmate visit rules
On May's Island a painted message for inmates delayed by jail access rules and flooding on the Cedar River. A judge's car was targeted and riverbank exposure to an inmate was reported as common but rarely caught. Lori faced no visitors during the delay while the message was removed at no taxpayer expense.
