General Motors indicated fall 1977 price increases for 1978 models could reach up to six percent, raising the average jump to between 370 and 400 dollars over 1977 prices. The move marks the industry’s first broad hint of higher new car prices outlining the anticipated rise.
Michael Bottoms, an inmate who escaped Monday with Thomas Chase from a Linn County jail, was captured Wednesday by a Linn County deputy. Bottoms had planned to surrender if no roadblocks were set, and faces new escape charges with up to one year in the state reformatory or a $300 fine. Chase remains in Chicago awaiting trial on related charges.
Two $50,000 lawsuits were filed in Linn district court over injuries from car accidents. Inez H. Schrader of 3008 Second Avenue SW sues David F. Adrian McThadden, 25, pled guilty to transporting forged checks in interstate commerce under the youth corrections act. Judge Edward J. McManus imposed an indeterminate sentence after the guilty plea regarding a 1975 Wisconsin and Iowa check scheme.
