An unemployed Locust Grove man was arrested in Ottawa county on Wednesday as sheriffs pursue questions about the sex murders of three Girl Scouts. Mayes County Sheriff Glen Weaver said the case is of high interest to investigators.
Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto accepts holding new national elections by year end to end three months of deadly unrest that has killed about 300 people. His cabinet will stay in power until the vote outcome, as opposition leaders hailed the move.

Cedar Rapids city council heard bids for three major construction projects with favorable results. Cedar Valley Corp. of Waterloo bid $379 386.76 to widen Edgewood Road, under the city estimate. Prairie Valley feeder water main sections showed low bids from Dave Schmitt Construction Co. and Bjornsen Investment Corp. All bids were referred to the engineering department for study.
Alan K. Whitworth of 24020 Avenue NE was reassigned as principal of Harding Junior High School effective July 1. He was an associate principal at Franklin Junior High since 1975 and has taught science at Franklin and Kennedy high schools. He replaces Dr. DuWayne Carnes who resigned to become high principal in Newton.
Still listed in critical condition is 19 year old Gary Allen Velcko of 1413 First Avenue SW after a motorcycle crash Monday evening. University Hospitals in Iowa City are treating him.
Alan Mills a Montreal folk singer, journalist and broadcaster known for I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly died Tuesday at age 63. He also worked as an actor and TV radio host.
