Iowa toll from traffic accidents rises with three dead
Weekend fatalities include Clyde Krum 67 of Mystic in Appanoose County after a rollover on a gravel road near Centerville. Also Ricky Pearson 25 of Monona killed on County Road X-16 near Luana when his car, at high speed, left the road and overturned. 17-year-olds Mark Bowling and Francis Jordan injured. Michelle Thiessen 19 of Everly died when her car hit a bridge southeast of Everly. Jan Tripp 16 of Iowa Falls drowned at Briggs Wood Park lake after an air mattress drifted away. The DOT urged headlight use for 1977 and later motorcycles and all mopeds.

Cedar Rapids man dies in Marshall County Jail
A 66 year old Cedar Rapids man Robert C. Wilson died in Marshall County Jail Saturday about 244 hours after his arrest for public intoxication. Autopsy to follow. Police report three Cedar Rapids burglaries in past days with items including tools stereo TV sets and flags stolen. Robbery at Happy Joe's Pizza Parlor yielded cash and checks. Suspects described as two armed men fled on foot.

Iowa City boundary error found in redistricting plan
Two Iowa City Democrats were placed in the same district in a proposed redistricting plan. Serge Garrison said Minnette Doderer and Jean Lloyd-Jones should be in separate districts, with Doderer in District 89 outlining southern Iowa City and Johnson County townships. He urged the Legislature to fix the map to ensure equal population among 100 House districts.
