Amana Society president dies after long tenure
Harry A. Geiger 73, longtime Amana Society president, died Sunday in Iowa City after a brief illness. Born in Davenport in 1908, he led Amana Society Farms from 1945 to 1973 and held many church and civic roles. Surviving are his wife Johanna and two sons, with services at Amana Community Church.

Destructive Iowa Storms Leave Cattle Lost and Homes Damaged
sunday storms in extreme northwest Iowa produced winds of 50 to 60 mph with small hail and heavy rain. Marlin Zaiser lost 10 cattle and 200 hogs when a twister northwest of Lake Park demolished his barn. Annetta Zaiser praised survival as the family sought shelter. Buildings were leveled on C. E. Lawrence farm and 8000 birds killed in a chicken-house roof collapse. Other tornadoes near Harris and in Lyon County caused minor damage. Rain totals ranged from about 1.4 to 1.98 inches across several towns.

Five-state search for plane called off
The Civil Air Patrol halted a five state search for a small airplane lost in flight from Texas to Iowa with two Decorah men aboard. Lt. Charles Oliver said more than 500 tips were checked with no success and the search was called off at 9 p.m. Sunday. Pilot Paul Strand and passenger Raymond Hauger, both Decorah residents, left Paris Texas on June 6 for Decorah and did not arrive.
