Iowa justices rule on immigration case in pre emption ruling

Iowa Supreme Court divides over a case involving an undocumented immigrant Martinez who entered in 1997 and raised four U S citizen children. The majority says state laws enforcing immigration matters create a patchwork that undermines federal law while a dissent argues identity theft and forgery remain state crimes regardless of immigration status. The state has 90 days to appeal to the U S Supreme Court.
