He was in Mizpah lodge 639 A F and A M Iowa Consistory El Kabir Shrine Cedar Chapter 184 CES and Plumbers Union Local 125. Services Friday at Turner chapel at 3 pm with Mizpah lodge burial at Oliphant Cemetery north of Cedar Rapids. Master masons to meet at Masonic hall 2:30 pm Friday.
Frances Bednar a 90 year old widow of Joseph Bednar died at her home 1601 L st SW Tuesday. Born in Czechoslovakia she lived in Cedar Rapids 43 years and belonged to Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church. Survived by four sons David Frey and Frank in Chicago Adolph in Akron Joseph in Cedar Rapids. one daughter Mrs Frank Lackner of Chicago. two brothers in Czechoslovakia. Services at Janeba funeral home with time to be announced. calling after 3 p.m. Thursday.
Verner E. Nordstrom 72 of 188 Seventeenth Ave SW Mediapolis died Monday after a lingering illness in a Cedar Rapids hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Fry's Funeral Home in Mediapolis with burial at Kossuth Cemetery. He was born June 6, 1887 in Northfield and married Ona E. Swan on July 29, 1922 in Mediapolis. Surviving: Ona Nordstrom, a son George of Cedar Rapids, and a sister Mrs Mimi Coonrod of Tipton.
Bryan S. Hardy, a Cedar Rapids carpenter of ten years, died at 9:20 p m Tuesday in Helena Montana. Born November 14 1896 in Duluth he married Mabel E Wilson in 1919 at Winnett Montana. Survivors include three sons Ned Hall Mont Richard Chicago and David Great Falls Mont. Services will be held in Turner chapel at a time to be announced.

John Francis Rock, 41, a former Cedar Rapids resident who had lived in New York City, died there recently. Born July 21, 1917 in Iowa City, he was a World War II veteran. Services planned Thursday at 2 in Harrison Funeral Home, Marengo.
The Rev. J Olen Kennell will be buried at Marengo. Surviving are his parents Mr and Mrs Charles Rompet Cedar Rapids a sister Mrs Kathryn Schwartz Seattle.

Reported enlistment shows 13 men, nine to the Navy and four to the Air Force. Navy recruits headed to San Diego for training include Verne D. Anamosa Shelley Nepps 6 was injured Tuesday afternoon when riding a bicycle and collided with a pickup driven by Harold Zink an Anamosa electrician. Bushes obstructed the view at an intersection. She was believed to have a brain concussion and was taken to University hospitals at Iowa City for examination.
The Latin American Institute, first in Canada, will open at King College in September 1960. It aims to curb Communist influence in South America by fostering cultural and educational ties with Canada.
County Engineer William H. Behrens says a nine man Iowa Highway Commission crew began a traffic survey of Linn County rural roads. The state plans a five year cycle surveying about 20 counties yearly and will map road use for rural road programs. The crew will mostly count intersections and aims to finish by August, using factor based averaging to offset day week and time variations.
Elmer E. Jacobsen 59 of 5005 Louisa St NE pled innocent Tuesday to a third offense drunken driving charge. He was arrested on Thirty-second Street near Center Point Road after allegedly striking a parked car in the 800 block of Oakland Road NE.
Linn County supervisors approve transfer of a one acre triangular plot southwest of the Chain Lakes bridge to the Linn County Conservation Board. A quiet title will be issued as arrangements are made and the land will be developed for public river access. The board also upheld zoning denial for a Mt. Vernon road and Forty-second SE site for a filling station. William G. Harrington of Cedar Rapids is hired county engineer at 10000 annual salary, to assume duties June 15.
Courthouse activity will be limited Thursday as county officials and employees travel to Waterloo and Des Moines for meetings. No district court sessions will be held while judges and many attorneys attend a State Bar Association gathering in Des Moines.
County officials and staff will attend a School of Instruction in Waterloo to learn changes enacted by the 58th Iowa General Assembly. County offices will stay open with sufficient staff to handle ongoing business.
Edwin C Chester 25 of 1322 Ninth St NW was sentenced today to 10 years in the Anamosa reformatory and paroled by Judge Floyd Philbrick after pleading guilty June 2 to a car theft. He allegedly stole a vehicle from Fred Hardy of 1217 Eleventh St NW on April 1. Ardelle D Blaise of 1890 Outlooker SW received a three month Linn County jail term suspended for good behavior after pleading guilty June 2 to driving while license suspended. He was arrested June 1 by Cedar Rapids officers and later detained for failing to present a license.
The Linn County Bar Association held a memorial service in Judge Floyd Philbrick's courtroom for three attorneys who died in the last two years. Dwight Krumholtz opened the service, Rev Bernard Olson gave the invocation, and tributes were read by each member for M J Donnelly W L Dutton and Stewart Holmes.

A man over 60, wearing glasses and a checked shirt, fled in a dark blue 1949 or 1950 Ford with Minnesota plates, allegedly netting under $1,000. Villagers recalled seeing him in the days before. Roadblocks were set as Art Baum of Mason City notified the marshal.
A study explores a possible affiliation between Broadlawns General Hospital in Polk County and the University of Iowa Medical College. Dr. E Thomas Scales said the Polk County Medical Society is interested and the plan could involve training facilities exchanges and Iowa instructors at Broadlawns. He noted the proposal is in an early stage.
