GOP Proposes $35 Billion Child Care Bill Leaders House

House Republicans led by Rep. Tom Tauke Iowa introduce a $35 billion child care bill as a GOP counter to a Democratic $42 billion plan. It offers $5 billion yearly in tax relief for low and middle income families, expands home care credits, and includes $200 million for state quality and availability grants. The bill seeks flexible child care options, with credits phased out above $40,000 income and reduced by $20 per $1,000 over $20,000. It also provides employer incentives and tax reforms for home-based care. Floor action was tentatively set for September.
