Acting State Climatologist Harry Hillaker said overnight rains Tuesday marked the first general summer-type storm pattern seen this year across much of Iowa. Most areas reported 1 to 2 inches, with Coon Rapids recording 5.2 inches. May was dry statewide with Buchanan and Jones counties posting the driest averages. Eastern Iowa had little rain since Mother's Day until the Tuesday event. Linn County saw spotty rain last Thursday.
