Evidence foes slow as blockade bites Hanoi forces
Washington officials say signs point to reduced North Vietnamese firepower in South Vietnam a month after Nixon ordered a halt on outside military supplies. Artillery shells into An Loc fell from weekly highs to under 300, and surface to air missiles dropped sharply. Analysts caution no proof of causation, noting port mining and rail bombing may pinch supplies and slow a Hue offensive while North Vietnamese commanders conserve ammunition.
