Sears to Close 72 More Stores in Latest Downturn
Sears Holdings will shut 72 Sears and Kmart outlets including a Davenport Sears and a Des Moines Kmart, with Cedar Rapids Lindale Mall Sears closing mid July. Nationwide, about 820 stores remain from 2,000 five years ago as sales fall 30 percent in the latest quarter and losses reach 424 million dollars.

Pocket park planned for MedQuarter in Cedar Rapids
The MedQuarter Regional Medical District will open a new pocket park by summer at the northeast corner of Eighth Street SE and Third Avenue SE. The under 0.1 acre lot, acquired in November for 115000, sits beside Phong Lan restaurant and will offer open grass area and trees for public use and MedQuarter programs.

Cedar Rapids based McGrath Auto Group adds Bird Chevrolet, a 91 year old Dubuque dealer, with details to close June 22. The group, operating 860 employees nationwide, also owns Hyundai and Volkswagen stores in Dubuque and Zimmerman Auto Center in Cedar Rapids. A new 10 100 square foot used car lot at 1510 Collins Rd NE is planned, estimated at 6 3 million. McGrath trace back to 1952.
