Officials Vote To Seek Okay for Private Audits
In Coralville 14 Eastern Iowa counties voted 23 to 0 at a workshop to ask the state for authorization of private audits of county books. Johnson County Supervisor Robert Burns said audits by nonpoliticians are more ethical and cheaper than state audits. A January bill by Rep. William Hargrave would allow private county audits. Burns cited a 1973 Johnson County audit that cost the county $10,599 and noted prior requests for private audits were denied by the attorney general.
