Archaeology digs uncover Adams Elementary relics in Cedar Rapids

Self trained volunteers dig through Adams Elementary site at Fifth Street and Seventh Avenue SE uncovering a keystone a doorknob nails and auto parts from the late 1800s to early 1900s while hoping for a time capsule or records linking the Wright brothers to Cedar Rapids. The site holds historical value as the 1880 brick Victorian school was replaced from an older building and later demolished after a 1962 fire with only a wall remaining. The discovery comes ahead of a Stamats parking lot project on the site led by Tom Hedges CEO of Stamats Communications.
