Homeowner Sues Over Insulation Dust Hazards
Diane Condon of Iowa City sues Hawkeye Area Community Action Program Inc. and Dan Stokes over cellulose insulation installed February at her Johnson County home. She alleges improper weatherization, defective product when sold by Menards and U S Green Fiber, and permanent injuries to her and her adoptive daughters Hailey and Shanea.

Mercy seeks dismissal of suit by radiation oncologist
Mercy Medical Center asks Linn County court to dismiss Dr Barbi Kaplan Frenkel’s suit alleging staffer Judie Hass removed billing codes. Mercy says actions were outside Hass’s scope. Hass is no longer employed. Kaplan Frenkel, president of Radiation Specialists of Eastern Iowa, seeks damages and possibly a jury trial if the case proceeds.

Marion school board commits to tax rate cut for 04 05
Marion Independent School District voters will see a lower district tax rate for 2004 05 after a 42 vote. The board pledged to reduce the rate by at least 1 per 1 000 of taxable valuation while exploring improvements to boost student achievement and cut costs. The panel also set plans to seek a 10 year extension of the voter approved PPEL with an income tax surtax, increasing annual funds from 67 cents to 1 34 per 1 000 and adding about 200 000 to the current 300 000.
