In Linn District Court the state accuses Darren Farmer of abusing 18 month old Jade Horkheimer during babysitting leading to a fatal brain hemorrhage. Jurors were dismissed after a brief testimony delay as the defense witness remained unavailable. Details on page 2A.
Johnson County magistrate will decide after July 30 whether Lone Tree farmer Tom Bell will be convicted on 11 counts of improper land use. Bell operates a migrant labor camp housing 82 workers after being cited earlier for 14 mobile homes on agricultural land.
Gaylon Dahn, former administrator at Kirkwood Community College, was sentenced Thursday to three to eight years in prison for stealing from a college he headed in Kansas. Details on page 2A.
