Insurance issues shut down Cedar Rapids Uptown Friday Night massages

Rebecca Wilcox a Cedar Rapids massage therapist and the Cedar Rapids Jaycees asked the City Council for permission to offer $10 corporate massages at the Uptown Friday Night event. The plan had council approval but was halted after discovering insurance gaps between Wilcox and Jaycees. Kelly Gordon noted neither party would be covered.

Farmer testimony ends in murder sexual abuse trial

Jurors in the Darren Farmer case will begin deliberations Monday in Linn District Court after closing arguments and jury instructions. The 19 year old Center Point man is accused of abusing 18 month old Jade Horkheimer of Hazleton then causing a fatal brain injury on November 18. Jade died November 20 after being taken off life support.

Judges orders seizure of four greyhounds in Dubuque case

U S District Judge David Hansen ordered the seizure of four greyhounds from the Dubuque Greyhound track and their sale by the Dubuque County sheriff. He also garnished funds earned by the dogs or held in Lois Allen's Merry Miler Kennel account in Lee Florida. Allan L Ertl sued Allen and the National Greyhound Association in 1989 claiming 17 pups were sent to Florida for training and awarded damages totaling 47 500.
