Five Fellowships Awarded to Iowa College Teachers
Five Iowa college professors received faculty fellowships for the coming year from the Fund for the Advancement of Education. Recipients include Victor Harris at the University of Town, John R. Kleinschmidt of Grinnell, Daniel R. Madelker of Drake, Robert S. Michaelson of the University of Iowa, and Robert B. Shultz of Drake. The fund awarded 250 fellowships nationwide totaling 1,096,870 plus travel and tuition.

Trucking Firm Plans New Terminal Near Coralville
Eldon Miller Inc announces a modern trucking terminal south of Coralville along the highway 6 cutoff. Construction starts in August with completion aimed for October or November depending on paving. Local operations move to the new site while offices and some maintenance stay on South Riverside Drive. A similar Cedar Rapids terminal is under construction.

Beardsley Inspects Eldora Boys' Training School
Gov. William S. Beardsley visited the Eldora boys training school on Thursday, his first trip since taking office. He plans monthly inspections of state institutions with board representatives accompanying him.

Military Rites for Cpl. Clifford L. Duckett Sunday
Military funeral services for Cpl. Clifford L. Duckett killed in action February 10 1945 in Europe will be held Sunday at 1 30 p.m. at his father Fred Duckett’s home and at 2 p.m. in Union church in Stanley. The rites will be led by the Oelwein VFW and Rev. J R Dikkers with burial in Stanley cemetery. Duckett born September 1 1921 in Fayette county attended school in Stanley and worked in a Keokuk factory before service. He earned the Purple Heart and Silver Star and is survived by family members including four brothers two sisters and grandparents. The body is due from New York around midnight Saturday.

Amvets will convene in Des Moines this weekend with lively contests for state commander and a dispute over the 1952 convention site. The event opens Friday and runs through Sunday with officer elections. About 500 delegates are expected. West Branch's 66 year old Myrtle Cookston died July 11 leaving a fund to establish a home for aged women on four acres in West Branch. She also left 40000 for care and improvement of North Prairie Cemetery, north of West Branch. Trustees to be named to oversee the home fund.

Boy 8 Killed in Rural Crossing Crash
An Illinois Central freight train struck a car at a rural crossing three miles east of here killing Wallace Jensen Jr. eight. Aunt Mrs Woodrow Jensen Webster City Driver Connie Jensen one year old passenger and all were taken to Hamilton county hospital. The car halted 30 feet from the track before entering path of the train.
