Federal funding ebb reshapes Iowa State and UI research
Federal stimulus waned under NIH NSF andDoD education and defense agencies prompting court fights and new campus federal updates. ISU total external funding rose 1 percent to 549.3 million in fiscal 2025 while UI reached 2,300+ projects with awards including 125.2 million from DOE and 45.3 million from NSF. UI and ISU face delays and shifting priorities as funding shifts continue through 2025 and beyond.
