Fischer Appeals Rejected In World Chess Championship Forfeit
An appeals panel in Reykjavik upheld referee Lothar Schmid’s ruling awarding the game to Boris Spassky after Bobby Fischer failed to appear for the scheduled match. Fischer’s lawyer Andrew Davis said he had not spoken with his client since arrival from New York. The decision leaves Fischer two games down in a 24 game match, needing 12 wins and a draw to win the title.
