Edward Henry Wessel, 86, former Corner Tavern owner in Ryan for 30 years, died in a Cedar Rapids nursing home. Born February 21, 1886, in Clinton county. Survived by son Melvin Wessel, Cedar Rapids. daughter Mrs. Raymond Eldred, Urbana. ten grandchildren. 22 great grandchildren. brothers Ralph Wessel, East Moline, and Fred Wessel, Davenport. Cedar Hills residents and Skogman Homes executives met with city officials to settle damages from water back up caused by two uncapped manholes at a Skogman Homes site. The city will extend the Owen Street storm sewer and arrange pickup of damaged goods. Insurance adjusters are gathering information as crews cap the manholes and study drainage plans.
Kathleen Tatro aged 11 of 1438 Fourth Avenue SE was in serious condition Friday at University Hospitals Iowa City with head injuries after a fall on a flight of stairs. She was first taken to St Luke's at about 9 p.m. before transfer. No details on the accident were available.
Robert J. Johnson of 372 Park Terrace SE was appointed director of community activities for the Iowa Knights of Columbus. State Deputy John R. Plunkett selected him to oversee development of community activities in Iowa's 111 local councils.
