Dawson receives new Cubs contract on his 36th birthday
Andre Dawson, turning 36, signs a one-year contract with a 1992 option as the Chicago Cubs push toward another All-Star season. The deal, likely above his $2.1 million 1989-90 pay, extends through 1991 with 1992 as the option year. Dawson, an eight-time Gold Glove winner and 1987 NL MVP, is hitting .324 with 19 homers and 57 RBIs in 78 games and seeks 300 steals in his career.
