Britain's Peace Mission Stirs Parliamentary Row
Parliament erupts as Harold Davies travels to Hanoi at Wilson's request to win Ho Chi Minh's acceptance of a peace mission. The move triggers sharp exchanges led by Sir Alec Douglas-Home, who recalls Chamberlain’s 1938 pact, while Wilson defends the urgency and unusual contacts amid worries of escalation. Johnson's administration was informed but not consulted.
