Iowa DNR warns ice conditions changing on state lakes

The Iowa DNR cautions that lake ice thickness and safety are deteriorating as warmer weather arrives. Ice has varied by day and hour, with 10 OHV/ATV drownings or break-through incidents reported last weekend across the Iowa Great Lakes, Lake Rathbun and near the Missouri border. Authorities urge frequent checks of thickness and safety gear, noting no ice is 100 percent safe as forecasts call for mid-40s to low-50s and possible Friday rain.
