A federal judge blocked President Trump's plan to pause federal funding during an ideological review. The administrative stay lasts until Monday and affects existing programs only, pending a constitutional clash over taxpayer money.
Lisa Barton, president and CEO of Alliant Energy, spoke at Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance’s annual meeting. She highlighted Iowa data center development, including two planned in southwest Cedar Rapids, as a driver to keep costs down for all customers. Barton became CEO January 1, 2024.
Former Gov Terry Branstad testified to support House Study Bill 52 for a University of Iowa School of Intellectual Freedom in the political science department. The campus plans for a Center for Civic Dialogue and Leadership were submitted to the Board of Regents and discussed for February consideration, with parallels to similar plans at UNI and Iowa State. Keith Saunders of US relations confirmed the center’s alignment with existing proposals and noted progress down the road.
