William O Fraser of La Grange Illinois was named assistant general manager of the Wilson and Company Cedar Rapids plant by President Edward Foss Wilson. Fraser, 51, previously worked in Wilsons beef department in Chicago and has six years with the company. He will work with GM Harry Palmer and was decorated by a Cedar Rapids dinner for 25 year employees.
County Engineer William Behrens reports Linn County added 24.5 miles of new surface to its 1,200 miles of roads in 1949. Total surfaced roads now reach 852.6 miles, leaving 343.3 miles unsurfaced. Expenditures in 1949 totaled $113,769.75 for construction plus $371,537.61 for maintenance and $16,834.64 for engineering.
Funeral services for Regis Day and Mrs Edwin Darling will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Mt. Mercy college chapel with Rev. Louis Wendling officiating. Burial is planned at Mt. Calvary cemetery.
Mrs. Lars Risdale 75 widow of Lars Risdale and longtime Norway Atkins resident died at home after a brief illness. She was born Sept. 25, 1874 in Norway and survived by seven daughters a son three sisters a brother 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Burial will be in Norway cemetery with funeral arrangements to be announced. The body was taken to Turner mortuary Cedar Rapids.
Mrs James W Anderson 69 died at her Cedar Rapids home after a long illness. Born February 26 1880 in Viola she lived in Monticello Marion and Council Bluffs before moving to Cedar Rapids 12 years ago. She was a Methodist and is survived by her husband a son Carlton Fred Anderson two daughters Geraldine Bond and Phyllis Mae Anderson a granddaughter Joan Shea two brothers Fred C Newlin and Harry H Newlin and two great grandchildren. Funeral 1:30 p.m. Monday at Yocom Murdock Marion. Burial Wilcox cemetery Viola.
Word arrived of the death of George A. Hennelly husband of Alice Franchere Hennelly, a Cedar Rapids resident for many years. He died Thursday morning in New York City.

Diana Lucille Santee daughter of Mr and Mrs Donald Santee of 1026 Eleventh Street NE dies Thursday. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Beatty chapel with Rev G H Bamford of Salem Evangelical United Brethren church officiating. Burial follows at Linwood cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
Henry C Wieneke 74 of Cedar Rapids route one died in a Cedar Rapids hospital at 12:17 a.m. Friday after a long illness. Born March 2 1875 near Cedar Rapids he lived in the area all his life. He was a retired farmer and Linn County Farm Bureau member. Surviving are a sister Mrs Henry Cassidy Cedar Rapids and a brother Louis C Wieneke Marion. Services will be in St Patrick's church Fairfax at 9:30 a.m. Monday with Rev Bernard White. Burial in St Joseph's cemetery Stark Settlement. The Rosary will be recited by Father White at 7 p.m. Sunday at Brady mortuary Cedar Rapids where friends may call Saturday evening and Sunday.
A Thursday afternoon blaze in Tiffin destroyed a large Ted Suck Produce Company building. Loss was estimated at 35000 dollars, with seed, eggs, and 3000 baby chicks inside. Investigators cited a defective oil burner as the probable cause.
Sister Mary Patrice Rouse born Bridget Rouse in Wilmington Illinois on December 28 1877 died Friday at 3 30 am after a brief illness. She joined the Sisters of Mercy in 1904 professed in 1906 and taught at Immaculate Conception and St. Wenceslaus in Cedar Rapids Marion DeWitt Decorah Fairfax and Waterloo. Survived by five brothers Michael Thomas Patrick Walter and John and two sisters Mrs Barbara Moran and Miss Anna Rouse of Dana Iowa along with several nieces and nephews.
Henry Hood of Springville was named chairman and Bernice Williams of Marion named secretary. Other members include Mrs. Charles Knickerbocker of Fairfax and Mrs. Arthur T. Newman of Marion, with Clarence Beeson of Cedar Rapids as First district supervisor. The board kept social welfare office hours 8 to 5 weekdays and noon Saturday, with a 40 hour week proposed and staggered monday and saturday offs.
Jerome P. Donahue 26 of Onslow received a 30 day jail term after pleading guilty to passing a worthless ten dollar check drawn on Cascade State Bank. Judge H R Churchill presiding. Other case: Roger H. Little of Toledo obtained a $298.79 default judgment against Gordon L. Lang for damages from a June 16 1948 accident on Highway 218 ten miles west of Vinton under Judge G K Thompson.
The suit of promissory notes and accounts by O W Lawrence against Bee Line transit was dismissed Friday by Judge G K Thompson on motion of the plaintiff. Eclipse Lumber Company Clinton filed suit against L M Hullinger for 644.52 for lumber and building materials. Linn Co-Operative Oil Company Marion sued James Flickinger for 187.35 on alleged due account. Gerald J Parker Monticello sued Ralph Slife Central City for 246.40 on alleged account.

New York and Lincoln to emphasize constitutional limits on state interference and notes vague trade area terms and lack of protection for wholesalers.
