Cedar Rapids hosts Fly Iowa 2003 July 5 and 6 at The Eastern Iowa Airport to promote general aviation and STEM interest. The event features aircraft flyovers displays and demonstrations by Cedar Rapids Skyhawks with up to 30000 expected attendees.

Mason City man convicted of perjury in Cedar Rapids
A federal jury in Cedar Rapids found Mason City man David Hirsch guilty of perjury after two hours of deliberation. Hirsch previously pled guilty to manufacturing methamphetamine and was acquitted on a weapons charge before the perjury indictment. He faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Des Moines Man Identified in Dallas County Homicide
The frozen body found in a vehicle two miles east of Booneville is William Kay, 36, of Des Moines. Police say the death is a homicide. The Ford Bronco with Iowa plates was missing from Des Moines since January 10 and towed to the Dallas County Sheriff’s garage for recovery.

Open Burning Ban Expands Across Cedar County
Firefighters from Swisher Solon Ely and North Liberty tackled a blaze for about three hours starting at 12 20 p m amid dry conditions. The state fire marshal banned open burning in Cedar County and neighboring counties Muscatine Maroneft Poweshiek Washington Webster Mahaska Appanoose Keokuk Wapello Cass while arson probes continue in affected areas.
